Northern Cape Provincial Government: Bursaries 2024
Northern Cape Provincial Government invites eligible South African students to submit applications for the Bursary Programme for the academic year 2024.
Bursary application closing date is 30 November 2023.
The Northern Cape Provincial Government (NCPG) offers bursaries to empower unemployed youth in the Northern Cape pursuing various undergraduate fields.
Bursaries will be awarded to Northern Cape students, for undergraduate studies within these fields:
- Architecture
- Arts
- Bachelors Education – Foundation Phase (Grade R to 3): Setswana Home Language and Afrikaans Home Language, Mathematics (Numeracy) / Braille South African Sign Languages
- Bachelors Education – Intermediate Phase (Grade 4 to 6): Setswana Home Language and Afrikaans Home Language, Mathematics / Natural Science & Technology Braille / South African Sign Language & Neurodevelopmental Needs
- Bachelors Education – Senior Phase: Setswana Home Language and Afrikaans Home Language / Agricultural Sciences / Agricultural Technology / Civil Technology / Computer Applications Technology / Electrical Technology / Engineering Graphics and Design / Information Technology / Life Sciences / Mathematics / Mechanical Technology / Physical Sciences / Technical Mathematics / Maritime Studies / Braille, South African Sign Language & Neurodevelopmental Needs

The Northern Cape Provincial Transversal Bursaries Programme aims to empower unemployed youth within the Northern Cape, by providing funding to financially and academically deserving candidates.
Eligibility Criteria for NCPG Bursary:
- Citizenship: South African citizenship.
- Employment: Unemployed status.
- Residence: Must reside within the Northern Cape province.
- Age: Between 18 and 35 years old.
- Education: Currently in Matric or have completed Matric.
- Field of Study: Full-time undergraduate studies within specified fields.
- Institution: Studying or accepted to study at a recognized and accredited public institution of Higher Education in South Africa.
- Academic Record: Strong academic performance.
- Financial Need: Demonstrated financial need.
- Preference: Given to financially needy and academically deserving applicants.
Coverage and Value of the Bursary:
- Covers registration fees, tuition fees, prescribed study material, and accredited accommodation.
- The bursary value is determined by a financial means test according to the applicant’s household income:
- R0 to R350,000 per annum: Up to R100,000
- R350,001 to R550,000 per annum: Up to R80,000
- R550,001 to R750,000 per annum: Up to R60,000
- More than R750,001 per annum: Up to R50,000
- Does not cover outstanding or pre-existing study debt.

- Online: Complete the NCPG Bursary Application 2024 online and then submit your documents via email (details below).
- Download: Download and fill the NCPG Bursary Application Form 2024 (.docx).
- Collect Form: Collect an application form from specified offices.
Required Documents (Certified Copies):
- Identity Document
- Matric results (if currently in Matric) and Matric certificate (if completed)
- Most recent academic results/transcripts (if currently studying)
- Proof of acceptance/provisional acceptance at a tertiary institution
- Proof of registration at a tertiary institution
- Parents/guardians/spouse documents: IDs, bank statements, SASSA documents, financial statements, etc.
- Various additional documents depending on specific circumstances (e.g., unemployment affidavit, death certificate if deceased, marriage/divorce certificates, etc.).

Applications may be submitted in either of the following ways (please only select 1 application method – you may not apply more than once):

– Collect an application form at any of the following offices:

Submit clear copies of the following documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):
- Identity Document (certified copy)
- Matric latest results, if currently in Matric (certified copy)
- Matric certificate, if completed Matric (certified copy)
- Most recent academic results/ transcripts, if currently studying (certified copy)
- Proof of acceptance/ provisional acceptance at a tertiary institution (certified copy)
- Proof of registration at a tertiary institution (certified copy)
- Parents, guardians or spouse documents (certified copies):
- Identity Documents
- 3 month latest bank statements
- Letter from all registered banks confirming account details
- Affidavit or proof from Department of Labour, if unemployed
- Official SASSA document, if receiving a child grant or pension
- Latest financial statement and Tax assessment, if self-employed
- Death certificate, if deceased
- Marriage certificate, if married
- Divorce decree, if divorced
- Affidavit or confirmation from school principal, if parent is single
- Affidavit from legal guardian, if under the care of a legal guardian
- Legal documents from social worker or Department of Justice & Constitutional Development, if an orphan or fostered child
Note: documents must have been certified within the past 6 months.
